Crew, not cast: the people behind the lighthouse film

The sound designer and the production designer talk about building a storm.

The lighthouse was built in a warehouse. The storm was made with fans, water and 40 buckets of dried peas.

Production designer Ritu Anand (fictional) said the lighthouse stairs were built at 80 percent scale to make actors feel cramped. Sound designer Kabir Sethi recorded real storms from a rooftop and layered them with wind from a hand-cranked machine.

"The audience should feel the weather in their stomachs," he said. The team spent four months on sound alone.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
